Lost in the Past

I want to chase tomorrow
My bare soles imprinting the terrain
My bare soul braving the slices of nature’s soil

I race the wind
A perpetually losing battle
Until yesterday disappears into the horizon
Like how mountains merge with the hills
The further you back away

But the past is no small mountain
It looms over
Bathing the future in its shadows
Withering everything ahead
Letting the petals fall from visions in fool’s paradise
It leaves the future barren

Like a void pushing forward
Taunting me
Make war with me
It dares
Thorns slither around me
Suffocating me
Slicing my throat so I can’t speak
The acrid taste of blood
Taints my tears red
A crimson vision

My futile efforts to unearth
An escape from this hell
Leave me back where I started
In the darkness
Blinding me from the bouquet of mirages
Conceived by past fantasies
Blinding me from the dried and crumbled leaves of past defeats
The consequences of my reality
It all tornadoes around me
Leaving me lost
